Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who is called the world’s greatest footballer, has made another record in the UEFA Champions League. He scored for French club Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday against Israeli club Maccabi Haifa in Group H. PSG won the match 3-1. This is his second consecutive win in the group round. PSG had defeated Italian club Juventus 2-1 in the previous match.
Messi made two records in this match. He has become the first footballer in Champions League history to score in 18 consecutive seasons. Apart from this, he also broke a record of the legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and Manchester United. Messi has become the goal scorer against 39 different teams in the Champions League. Ronaldo scored against 38 teams.
Maccabi scored the first goal:
The team of Maccabi Haifa, considered weak in the match against PSG, started with a bang. For him, Jeroen Cherry surprised PSG in the 24th minute by scoring the first goal. Maccabi went on to lead Haifa 1-0. His fans started dancing and celebrating in the stadium with their shirts open.
Messi scored the team’s first goal:
In the 37th minute, Messi disappointed the Maccabi Haifa fans. He scored the first goal for PSG to make the score 1-1. Messi scored a brilliant goal near Killian Mbappe. After this, Mbappe scored the 69th from Messi and Neymar scored in the 88th minute off Marco Veratti. PSG won the match 3-1.
Benfica beat Juventus
Another Group H match saw a major upset. Portugal’s club Benfica surprised everyone by defeating Juventus 2-1. First goal for Juventus. Milik did it in the fourth minute. Just before halftime, Joo Mario scored a penalty in the 43rd minute to level Benfica 1-1. After halftime, David Neres scored in the 55th minute to give Benfica a decisive 2-1 lead.
Real Madrid and AC Milan win
In Group F, Spanish club Real Madrid defeated German club RB Leipzig 2-0. In the same group, the match between Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk and Scottish club Celtic ended in a 1-1 draw.
In Group E, Italian club AC Milan defeated Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb 3-1. In the other match of this group, the match between England’s Chelsea and Austria’s Salzburg ended in a 1-1 draw.
Manchester City beat Borussia Dortmund:
In Group G, Manchester City of England beat Borussia Dortmund of Germany 2-1. Arling Haaland, a star youngster who played for Dortmund, now plays for Manchester City. He scored the deciding goal of the match against his old team.
In another group match, the match between Sevilla of Spain and Copenhagen of the Netherlands ended in a goalless draw. In Group A, Italy’s Napoli beat Rangers of Scotland 3-1.
