The party of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder will be merged with the BJP today. The Captain can take the primary membership in the presence of National President JP Nadda at the BJP Headquarters in Delhi.
Along with Captain, six former MLAs of Punjab, Captain’s son Ran Inder Singh, daughter Jai Inder Kaur, grandson Nirwan Singh will also join BJP but wife MP Preneet Kaur will be in Congress for the time being.
In the last assembly elections, Captain had left the Congress and formed an alliance with the BJP in Punjab by forming the Punjab Lok Congress. At that time, his son Raninder Singh had played an important role in the distribution of tickets in coordination with the BJP, but in the face of AAP’s storm in Punjab, the Captain’s party blew up and the BJP also went to the margins.
BJP is trying to make a place in Punjab. The news of merger with the BJP comes at a time when the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has filed a police complaint accusing the BJP of breaking AAP MLAs under Operation Lotus.
The BJP has long been looking for a strong Sikh face in Punjab, acceptable to the Hindu constituency as well. Amarinder Singh has good personal relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When he was the CM of Punjab, he had said on record that PM always cooperates when contacted.
No ticket for more than 75 years of age:
Captain Amarinder Singh has been the Chief Minister of Punjab twice from the Congress, but now the question is arising that what will be his role after joining the BJP. The captain is currently 80 years old. Whereas BJP does not give tickets to leaders above 75.
In such a situation, the road can be a bit difficult for the captain. Although daughter Jai Inder Kaur handles his political work. His role in the Punjab elections was in the first line. In such a situation, it is believed that his daughter can also get an important role.
