Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder (HBHvSYT): The 44th Match of KFC BBL 2021-22 will be played between these two teams HBH vs SYT, The match will begin on 10 January 2022 at 08:40 AM IST.
Key Points:
- Sydney Thunder has won its previous five matches
- Hobart Hurricanes have the best batsman of BBL 2021-22, Ben McDermott, in their lineup
- Sydney Thunder’s team balance looks a bit off without Sam Billings and we think it could find itself in trouble with a few early wickets
Team Analysis:
The Hobart Hurricanes have moved up into the top-4 and actually opened up a bit of a gap between the trailing teams with their win against Brisbane Heat in the previous match. They now face a much tougher test against Sydney Thunder in this next BBL 2021-22 match. Sydney Thunder has won the previous five matches it has played and is in absolutely stunning form.
The two teams are quite evenly matched and the betting odds on both of them to win are very close. Sydney Thunder is still the slight favorite and we think that reflects their current form quite well.
Match Details:
Date: January 10, 2022
Time: 08:40 AM (IST)
Venue: Aurora Stadium, Launceston, Australia
Live Streaming: Sony LIV App
TV: Sony Sports Network
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
The weather forecast for match day in Melbourne is quite good and so we should be able to get an uninterrupted contest. We have seen a big improvement in the playing surface at the MCG where the average scores have been around 160 for the most part. The previous match, though, saw a low-scoring game be played there. We think there has been some time played since the previous match and so the surface will have had time to return to its best.
A score of around 160 should be par.
Team Preview:
Hobart Hurricanes (HBH):
Hobart Hurricanes absolutely crushed an underpowered Brisbane Heat lineup in the previous match. Ben McDermott could have had an incredible third century in this edition of the BBL but he eventually fell on 93. McDermott has been the best batsman for the Hobart Hurricanes by a fair margin. You could continue to back Ben McDermott to score runs. The Over/Under line available for him right now is 26.5 but he has two fifties and two hundreds in eight matches so it would definitely be worth a punt.
It will be interesting to see if Matthew Wade plays this match. He is one of the leading batsmen for the Hurricanes but did not play the previous match. Caleb Jewell, Darcy Short, and Peter Handscomb give the Hobart Hurricanes an excellent batting lineup.
Thomas Rogers and Riley Meredith are the highest wicket-takers for the Hurricanes. Rogers is the one that has the best economy rate and the best average out of all the bowlers. You should stick to one of these two if you are going to pick someone for the Top Bowler Hobart Hurricanes batting market.
Likely XI: Ben McDermott, Caleb Jewell, Peter Handscomb, D’Arcy Short, Tim David, Tom Lammonby, Mitchell Owen, Thomas Rogers, Will Sanders, Riley Meredith, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Sydney Thunder (SYT):
Sydney Thunder lost the services of Sam Billings, one of their best batsmen in BBL 2021-22, and did not lose a step. Daniel Sams of all people scored 98 not out to help them to the third-biggest win in BBL history. The previous match showed just how good a team Sydney Thunder is in the T20 format with an immense amount of power in its batting lineup and a number of players that can contribute in both aspects of the game.
However, we do think that not having Sam Billings is going to hurt it against some of the better teams.
Gilkes, Hales, and Sangha were the three batsmen that they played. A couple of early wickets could easily hurt Sydney Thunder massively since the depth in the batting is just not there.
Such a balance does give Sydney Thunder a lot of options in the bowling department. They had five excellent bowlers in the previous match but the most impressive has been Mohammad Hasnain. The Pakistani fast-bowler has been bowling thunderbolts and picked up six wickets in the two matches he has played.
Gurinder Sandhu, Daniel Sams, Nathan McAndrew, and Tanveer Sangha bowled in the previous match. ANy one of them could end up taking the most wickets and so we would avoid staying away from the Top Bowler Sydney Thunder betting market for this match.
Likely XI: AD Hales, M Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Daniel Sams, Oliver Davies, Ben Cutting, Baxter J Holt, Gurinder Sandhu, Nathan McAndrew, Tanveer Sangha, Mohammad Hasnain.
