Not eight, but 10 teams will be seen playing from the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was preparing to add two new teams to the IPL from the 2021 season itself, but this could not be possible due to the corona virus epidemic. However, now to choose two new teams, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made six cities as contenders.
The BCCI believes that the Hindi speaking regions have the largest audience of IPL. Last year, 65 per cent of IPL viewers were from Hindi speaking regions. Keeping this in mind, the six cities selected by the BCCI, Hindi is spoken partially or partially in them. These cities include Guwahati, Ranchi, Cuttack (all three East Zone), Ahmedabad (West Zone), Lucknow (Central Zone) and Dharamsala (North Zone).
However, out of these cities, teams from only two cities will be seen playing in the next IPL. The board has not yet announced the date of bidding. It will take a month. The base price of these teams has been fixed at 2000 crores. If 10 teams will play in IPL 2022, then obviously the number of matches will increase and if this happens then definitely IPL will last for a long time and it will be played in India only.
Till now there are teams from Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata in IPL, but it is also believed that two new teams of IPL can be based in Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The reason behind this is that the team of Gujarat has been a part of IPL in the past, while considering the popularity of IPL, at least one team from a big state like Uttar Pradesh can also claim.
