Ajaz Patel said after his special achievement that to be honest, it is like a dream and it is very special to achieve this achievement in his career. It was only in my luck that I achieved this feat in Mumbai itself.
Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel took all 10 wickets in the first innings of the Mumbai Test and became the first bowler in the world to achieve this feat for New Zealand in Test cricket and the third in the world. Born in Mumbai, Ejaz achieved such a feat in Mumbai and that too against Team India was amazing in itself. After achieving this special feat, Ejaz talked about his bowling and said that it was his destiny to achieve such success in Mumbai itself.
33-year-old Ajaz Patel moved with his parents from Mumbai to New Zealand in the year 1996. He took 10 wickets for 119 runs in 47.5 overs in the first innings, achieving a rare feat against India. He became the third bowler after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to do so in an innings of Test cricket and also equaled those legends.
Ajaz Patel said after his special achievement that to be honest, it is like a dream and it is very special to achieve this achievement in his career. It was only in my luck that I achieved this feat in Mumbai itself. He said that this is a very special occasion for me, not only for me but also for my family. It is my misfortune that he is not here with me due to COVID-19. Also I join Anil Kumble sir in this stupendous achievement. Asked which of the 10 wickets he took was special, he said, “Nobody was special, just trying to bowl the kind of strategy that was devised by the team as well.” Which was needed.
