India’s fast bowler S. Sreesanth has announced his retirement from international cricket. He gave this information on Twitter on Wednesday (February 9). Sreesanth played his last for India 11 years ago.
His career was ruined in 2013 after he was caught in match-fixing. He did return to domestic cricket last year, but he was not selected for the IPL either.
He was banned for life in 2013 due to allegations of match-fixing. Sreesanth was acquitted of all charges by the special court in 2015. After this, all the restrictions imposed on him were removed by the Kerala High Court in 2018.
However, a division bench of the High Court later reinstated the ban. After this Sreesanth had approached the Supreme Court. The top court upheld his guilt.
The BCCI was recommended to reduce the sentence. In August 2019, BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain reduced the life ban to 7 years. That expired in September 2020.
