A five match test series is being played between India and England. The Indian team took a 2–1 lead after winning two Test matches in four of the series. In the fourth match played in Leeds, India’s Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were injured while fast bowler Mohammed Shami was out of the playing XI due to unfit.
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has recovered from injury and is set to play the final Test against England in Manchester. Shami and Ishant Sharma were rested for the Oval Test due to minor injuries. It is learned that Shami attended the team’s practice session on Wednesday.
“Shami is fit and when Shami is fit, he is automatically liked.”
A senior BCCI official said,
Shami being fit will help skipper Virat Kohli and the only available coach Vikram Rathor to consider options before the fifth match. Senior batsmen Rohit Sharma (knee injury) and Cheteshwar Pujara (ankle injury) are also injured and are still under medical observation. Rohit’s injury is improving rapidly and he is likely to play, but a decision will be taken only after getting the green signal from the medical team.
If Rohit does not get fit at the right time, then one of Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Prithvi Shaw will be given a chance. In Pujara’s absence, either Hanuma Vihari and Suryakumar Yadav may find a place in the playing XI.
