Ahead of the five-match Test series to be played against England, the Indian team seems to be facing a major setback. The team’s young opener Shubman Gill has been injured and according to the information, he may be out of the series. Gill, who opened the innings with Rohit Sharma in the Test series on the tour of Australia, opened the innings in the World Test Championship final after further performances in the series against England.
Team India is spending time practicing and resting before the Test series on the tour of England. It was reported on Wednesday that Indian opener Shubman Gill may be ruled out of the five-match Test series against England due to injury. However, no information has been given about Gill’s injury.
Standby Abhimanyu Easwaran can come in his place in the main team. Things are not clear about Gill’s condition and he has been asked to undergo surgery before August 4. A BCCI official said, “There is a possibility that Gill may be ruled out of the Test series. His injury is serious and we need to know many things.
It is believed that the Punjab batsman is suffering from a calf or hamstring injury which may take a long time to heal. However, it is not clear when and how he got the injury. His injury is being monitored by his Physio Nitin Patel and Strength and Conditioning Coach Sohum Desai in England.
Gill’s performance in the last few innings has been poor. He has not been able to score a single half-century in the last four Test innings. Also he struggled ahead of seam and swing bowling against New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship in Southampton. If Gill is out, Mayank Agarwal and Lokesh Rahul are also included in the team as openers. Easwaran will come in his place only from the standby list.
