Delhi Capitals emerged as one of the stronger teams on paper after the end of the 2022 Indian Premier League auction. It can no longer lay claim to one of the best, most dangerous fast strikes in the league, as both Avesh Khan and Kagiso Rabada have parted ways. Way to franchise but Delhi Capitals lived up to their vision of being a largely young team with a hint of experience.
This vision has brought them considerable success over the years as it has qualified for the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and it is no surprise that they are keen to build on that same approach for future years.
This was enough indication that he had gotten his formula and template in order, but the lack of trophies also indicated that the approach needed to be slightly shaped to fill in the missing puzzle pieces that allowed him to play the deciding game. Got it. I had to fall short. David Warner’s homecoming in Delhi after almost eight years may just be the piece of the puzzle that pieces the final picture.
This may not be in favor of their previous franchise, or has been suggested as the relatively less intense bidding war in the auction room. But purely in terms of cricket value, buying David Warner for Rs 6.25 crore is a steal of a deal.
Besides him, Delhi Capitals’ top buyers in the auction were Shardul Thakur (Rs 10.75 crore), Mitchell Marsh (Rs 6.5 crore), Khaleel Ahmed (Rs 5.25 crore) and Chetan Sakaria (Rs 4.2 crore).
