Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli will step down from the captaincy of the team after IPL 2021. Virat Kohli gave this information through a video released by RCB. The franchise has also confirmed this news. This will be Virat Kohli’s last season for RCB as captain.
In the official video released by RCB, Virat Kohli said that this will be my last season with this team as a captain. He said that I will remain a player of RCB till I play my last IPL match. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me. Earlier, Virat Kohli had announced the captaincy of the Indian T20 team and said that after the T20 World Cup, he would only captain the ODI and Test teams. Virat Kohli took this decision because of his workload.

Virat Kohli has been associated with RCB since the debut season i.e. 2008, but he was given the responsibility of captaincy in the year 2011. He was appointed the captain of the team in place of Daniel Vettori. As captain, Virat Kohli has led RCB in 131 matches, in which he has led the team to 60 matches while the team has lost 64 matches. Three matches were tied while the result of four matches could not be ascertained. Under the captaincy of Virat, this team has not been able to win the IPL title even once and questions have been raised about his captaincy over and over again.
Virat Kohli will play for RCB-
Virat Kohli said in the released video that he has taken the decision to quit the captaincy of the team after talking to the team management and the players. He said that earlier I also left the captaincy of the Indian T20 team and now this decision has been taken to manage the workload. Virat said that RCB is also in a phase of change as a mega auction is about to happen and I have made it clear to the team management that I will not play for any other team and I have this commitment with RCB from day one. I will be associated with this team till I play the last match of IPL.
Kohli said that I captained this team for 9 years and during this there were many ups and downs. He said that I thank everyone for the way the fans supported me as a captain. On the other hand, on Kohli’s decision to step down from the captaincy, the RCB chairman said that Virat Kohli is one of the wonderful cricketers and he has been a great asset to RCB. His working style and leadership skills are amazing. We respect his decision and I thank him for his tremendous contribution. He has made his mark on the franchise and will continue as a senior player in the team.
