- India has a stronger batting lineup with more power in it
- Sri Lanka’s batting is decent but it does not have a good bowling attack
- India’s bowlers should be much more effective in T20 cricket than they were in the ODI’s
Sri Lanka vs India (SLvIND): The 1st T20I match of India tour of Sri Lanka will be played between these two teams, The match will begin on 25 July 2021 at 08:00 pm IST.
India won the ODI series 2-1 but Sri Lanka came very close to winning it and the scoreline could have easily been reversed. There were quite a few people that expected India to dominate even with its young team, however, Sri Lanka has proven that is not going to be the case.
Now, the action shifts to the T20 series, and both teams will be aiming to get some positives for the T20 World Cup 2021 that beings in a few months. Sri Lanka is going to be up against some history here as India holds a 10-1 advantage over it in the previous 11 T20 internationals that they have played.
There are still some great betting opportunities to look for in this match, though.
There is a real bounce in the step of the Sri Lanka batsmen in recent matches. It appears as if they have recognized that the Indian bowling can be put under pressure. Avishka Fernando played a match-winning inning in the third ODI and we think he is going to continue at the top of the order once more.
India struggled in the ODI format but we think it is going to fare much better in the T20’s. If you look at the squad of players, then most of them are those that have done well in T20 cricket recently. They are all among the top performers in the IPL and will enjoy being back in that format once more.
Match details:
Date: July 25, 2021 (Sunday).
Time: 08:00 PM (IST)
Venue: R.Premadasa stadium, colombo
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
There is a lot of rain predicted for the match but we have seen that Sri Lanka has some excellent drainage systems in place. We will hopefully be able to get a result and the maximum possible overs to be bowled.
A score of around 170 should be par if we are able to get the full 20 overs per team.
SL vs IND Probably XI:
SL:
Pathum Nissanka may get a run in the team at the top of the order if Sri Lanka decides to change its batting lineup a bit. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Dasun Shanaka are all in pretty decent touch and give Sri Lanka a strong batting lineup that can compete with India.
There is a lack of power when you compare it to India or some of the other top teams. Sri Lanka is not the best when it comes to six-hitting and that can be exploited in the Sixes betting markets.
We think the bowling attack for Sri Lanka is going to be similar to what we saw in the third ODI. Dushmanth Chameera has been their best bowler in recent months, Akila Dananjaya picked up three wickets in the previous match, and Karunaratne has been quite impressive so far.
If anything, Sri Lanka may drop one spinner and look for another fast-bowling all-rounder like Isuru Udana.
The bowling is where Sri Lanka often falls back and that is a weakness once again.
Likely XI: Avishka Fernando, Minod Bhanuka(wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Isuru Udana, Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera
IND:
India’s batting has been aggressive so far and that will continue in the T20 series as well. Even while losing wickets, India consistently scored quicker than Sri Lanka allowing it some breathing room in chases.
Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shikhar Dhawan should be the top-3 for this series. We could see Devdutt Padikkal get a chance as well but that may not happen in the first match.
With Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson in the squad, India is spoilt for choices. It will end up being a stronger and more powerful batting lineup no matter who they pick.
India’s bowling was poor in the ODI’s but it will be better in the T20’s. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is the most economical bowler in the powerplay in the world and he is going to be difficult to score off upfront. Similarly, Varun Chakravarthy, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar are all genuine wicket-takers in the shortest format of the game.
India has enough and more in the tank to be able to take on the Sri Lankans. IN many respects, India was already playing its T20 team in the ODI format and now the players are going to be a lot more comfortable.
Likely XI: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan (wk), Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar/Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal
Did you know:
– In 17 T20Is since the 50-over World Cup in 2019, Yuzvendra Chahal has 16 wickets. In the same period, Kuldeep Yadav, Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar have a combined tally of 10 wickets in 13 outings.
– Captain Dasun Shanaka and Isuru Udana are the only two members of the Sri Lanka squad to have featured in more than 100 T20 games.
– Shikhar Dhawan has 1519 runs in 41 IPL fixtures since the start of the 2019 season. He hasn’t been able to replicate that form for India, as he has just 363 runs in 14 T20Is at an average of 25.92 and strike rate of 117.47 in the same period.
