- India has a powerful batting lineup led by fearless youngsters
- Sri Lanka is in terrible form and its players look short of confidence
- India’s bowling attack is not very strong but still better than Sri Lanka’s by far
Sri Lanka vs India (SLvIND): The 2nd ODI match of India tour of Sri Lanka will be played between these two teams, The match will begin on 20 July 2021 at 03:00 pm IST.
India managed to get the better of Sri Lanka with a ridiculous amount of ease in the first ODI. We saw a lot that can help bettors make some smart choices in the matches to follow and we will try to find the best cricket bets for Sri Lanka vs India for you.
India’s youngsters are fearless and we think there is no doubt that they are going to play this way. Sri Lanka did manage to put up a fight in parts and there were some occasions where a couple of players could have pushed India further.
Both teams will be hoping for an improved performance in this match. Can India win the series and build towards a 3-0 sweep or will Sri Lanka be able to fight back? This series is important for the future of both teams but also because there are some important World Cup Super League points on offer.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first in the first ODI. A smart move considering the history of the stadium but its batsmen did not really do the job they were supposed to. A number of batsmen got starts but none of them were able to get past the 50 run mark. They were also just not good enough against the spinners.
Sri Lanka’s strategy seemed to be to block the spinners or to try and smash them out of the park. There was no in-between and that needs to change.
A couple of batsmen stood out to us during the short innings that they played. Avishka Fernando showed his class against the new ball before playing a terrible shot to Yuzvendra Chahal. Fernando has played ODI cricket in the past and even has a few centuries to his name. He is someone that could score some runs with a little bit of better shot selection.
Sri Lanka played terribly and got over 260 runs. They can improve a little and target 300 for sure.
India may have won the first match with ease but we don’t think it would have been happy with the bowling performance. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar were all bowling less than 130 kmp/h. The same was the case with Hardik Pandya. They did not look threatening at all and almost seemed disinterested.
A better batting lineup or a better batting effort from Sri Lanka could really punish such bowling efforts.
India could have easily scored 350 had it batted first.
Date: July 20, 2021 (Tuesday).
Time: 03:00 PM (IST)
Venue: R.Premadasa stadium, colombo
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
The forecast for this match is pretty good and we should have another day with clear skies to look forward to. The pitch was flat, slow in nature, and devoid of any help for the bowlers. The slower bowlers are going to be more effective on such surfaces but even they will have to work hard for their wickets.
Plenty of runs are on offer and we really think that 300 is the bare minimum teams need to be competitive batting first.
SL vs IND Probably XI:
Bhanuka Rajapaksa loves the sweep shot and plays the spinners quite well. His shot to get out against Kuldeep Yadav was also cringe-worthy but he is another player to watch out for with the bat. Dhananjay de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Hasarnga, and Karunaratne can all bat giving Sri Lanka a decent amount of batting depth.
The Sri Lanka bowling is very poor and is going to struggle to contain the Indian batting. None of the fast-bowlers have the pace to trouble the batsmen and the spinners are going to be attacked relentlessly as well. Dropping catches, as Sri Lanka did in the first match, is just going to make things worse.
Dushmanth Chameera is the only bowler that we think could perhaps pick up a couple of early wickets and put the Indian batting under pressure.
Likely XI: Avishka Fernando, Binod Bhanuka (wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Aslanka, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Isuru Udana, Dushmantha Chameera, Lakshan Sandakan
Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, and then Suryakumar Yadav all played brilliantly against the Sri Lanka bowling attack.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav picked up a few wickets and were able to get away with bowling too slow as well. Flighting the ball and waiting for the batsmen to make mistakes is going to work against Sri Lanka but powerful sides like England, West Indies, and Australia are going to make such bowlers pay.
We don’t think there are going to be many changes in the Indian lineup for this match. Bettors should look for markets like Total Fours, Total Sixes, or Highest Individual Total for this match as that can be very profitable for them moving forward.
Likely XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal.
