Shahid Afridi won this title in the first season of T20 World Cup i.e. 2007. This was followed by Tillakaratne Dilshan in 2009, Kevin Pietersen in 2010, Shane Watson in 2012, Virat Kohli in 2014 and 2016 and now David Warner in 2021. Out of this, David Warner became the second player after Kevin Pietersen to win the Player of the Tournament title for the winner’s team. Apart from these two, Afridi, Dilshan, Watson and Kohli had won these titles, but the team winners of these players were not made.
