Team winner Prediction:
Key Points:
- Netherlands has a very good bowling lineup and a dangerous batting unit too
- Ireland’s batting is very top-heavy and a collapse always seems around the corner
- Ireland lost a series to the UAE in the build-up to the T20 World Cup
IRE vs NED Analysis:
Ireland and the Netherlands are in the same group for the first round of the T20 World Cup 2021 matches. They also have Sri Lanka in their group so if things go as expected, only one of Ireland or the Netherlands can qualify for the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup.
This makes Ireland vs Netherlands an extremely important match.
We have been following both of these teams quite closely in the build-up to the World Cup and we believe there are a number of good betting opportunities that are available in this match. Let us try and explore some of them.
Match Details:
Date: October 18, 2021
Time: 03:30 PM (IST)
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Live Streaming: Disney+ Hotstar
TV: Star Sports Network
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
The conditions in Abu Dhabi are expected to be good for batting. The pitch does slow up a little as the match progresses but the surface is actually better than what we saw at the start of the IPL matches. A score of around 170 can be seen as achievable by both the team that bats first and the one that chases.
Getting runs in the powerplay is key as the last six overs may not be very productive.
Team Preview:
Ireland (IRE):
Ireland’s cricket team has unfortunately not been able to show the kind of improvement that may have been expected. It is a full-member Test playing country now but it is still being beaten by associate nations quite regularly.
Ireland lost a T20 series to UAE 2-1 just a few days before the start of the T20 World Cup. Ireland tends to struggle in conditions that are a bit spin-friendly and that is exactly what is expected in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Almost the entirety of Ireland’s batting challenge is going to come from their top-3. Kevin O’Brien, Paul Stirling, and Andrew Balbirnie. Ireland lacks depth and although there are some promising players like Harry Tector, Gareth Delany, Curtis Camphor, and George Dockrell in the squad, we don’t think they are going to win Ireland too many matches.
Joshua Little and Craig Young are the bowlers to watch out for. Little, in particular, is very good with the new ball and can be difficult to score off. T20 cricket is Ireland’s weakest format and it would be very nervous starting against a dangerous Netherlands team.
Likely XI: Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie(c), Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, Neil Rock(w), Simi Singh, Joshua Little, Craig Young, Mark Adair

Netherlands (NED):
The Netherlands has grown into one of the strongest associate nations in recent times and it would be looking to make a mark in the T20 World Cup for sure. A lot of the players named in the squad play in the English County Circuit and so are not at all short of high-level cricket.
The Netherlands, though, has not played a match in the UAE in recent weeks to get used to the conditions. That is something that could be seen as a clear disadvantage.
We think the Netherlands has a very dangerous batting lineup. Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackerman, Bas de Leede, Stephan Myburgh, and Ryan Ten Doeschate are all a part of the squad. They are capable of getting runs quickly and can clear the boundaries quite regularly as well.
The bowling department for the Netherlands is also quite good. Fred Klaassen, Logan van Beek, and Timm van der Gugten are all experienced, skilled, and deceptively dangerous. They will know the importance of getting an early wicket and will come at the Irish batsmen very hard.
Roelof van der Merwe is also a very experienced spinner and someone who just raises his game in pressure situations.
Likely XI: Stephan Myburgh, Max ODowd, Ben Cooper, Colin Ackermann, Pieter Seelaar(c), Ryan ten Doeschate, Bas de Leede, Scott Edwards(w), Roelof van der Merwe, Fred Klaassen, Logan van Beek
