The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is starting two weeks later, but before that the concern of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been raised by a player. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who was picked ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, is being considered a key bowler for this mega event, but the BCCI medical team needs to do extra work with the Tamil Nadu wrist spinner. Because his knee is not fully healed.
The selected Indian team for this tournament can be changed till October 10, but Varun is sure to play despite the knee problem. A BCCI source said, “Varun’s knee is not in good condition. He hurts and if it was not for the World Cup, the Indian team management wouldn’t risk feeding him. At this point the focus is on him getting out of pain for the T20 World Cup. Relief is on. After that rehab will be considered.” Apart from Varun Chakravarthy, there are some spinners in the Indian team, but they have not been so effective in the UAE.
Varun Chakraborty has played all 13 league matches for Kolkata Knight Riders i.e. KKR in the 14th season of IPL so far. He has also taken 15 wickets in these matches, including the wicket of a legend like MS Dhoni.
“KKR’s support staff has prepared an elaborate fitness program for Varun. He is also being given pain-relieving injections so that he can bowl four overs. These injections relieve the pain. His pain is not visible on TV. Comes, but when he is not bowling it hurts.” This is the reason why BCCI is also worried.
