England captain Joe Root continues his stellar form in the Ashes series. The English captain, who rocked Test cricket throughout the year, made a strong record in the second innings of the Adelaide Test. He surpassed former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar in the list of most runs scored in Test cricket in a calendar year. He is now behind only the former Pakistani batsman in terms of scoring the most runs in a season.
On the third day of the second match of the series being played in Adelaide on Saturday, Root scored a half-century by batting brilliantly in the first session. During this, he left behind Sachin and Gavaskar in terms of scoring the most Test runs in a season. Indian legend Gavaskar had scored a total of 1555 runs in 1979, which was broken by Sachin in 2010 by scoring 1562 runs.
England captain breaks records, lags behind Pak legend:
Before landing in the second Test match, Root had a total of 1544 runs in his account this year. He first broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record with the 12th run in the first innings and then left Sachin behind by scoring the 19th run. The record for the most runs in a season is in the name of former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf, who scored 1788 runs in the year 2006. The record of 1710 runs made in 1976 by former West Indies legend Viv Richards was broken by the Pakistani legend.
Root’s Explosion in the 2021 Season:
Root started this season with a double century. Till now he has scored more than 1600 runs after playing 11 test matches. The batsman, who scored six centuries and three half-centuries, has so far scored a total of 2 double centuries in this season.
