Root has surpassed former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar in the list of most runs scored in Test cricket in a calendar year. He is now behind only the former Pakistani batsman in terms of scoring the most runs in a season.

England captain Joe Root continues his stellar form in the Ashes series. The English captain, who rocked Test cricket throughout the year, made a strong record in the second innings of the Adelaide Test. He surpassed former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar in the list of most runs scored in Test cricket in a calendar year. He is now behind only the former Pakistani batsman in terms of scoring the most runs in a season.

On the third day of the second match of the series being played in Adelaide on Saturday, Root scored a half-century by batting brilliantly in the first session. During this, he left behind Sachin and Gavaskar in terms of scoring the most Test runs in a season. Indian legend Gavaskar had scored a total of 1555 runs in 1979, which was broken by Sachin in 2010 by scoring 1562 runs.
