Hockey India has announced a 22-member Indian team for the FIH Women’s Hockey Pro League. This team will play two matches against Spain on 26 and 27 February. Both the matches will be played in Bhubaneswar in the evening.
Goalkeeper Savita has been made the captain of the team, while Deep Grace is the ace vice-captain. Some new faces have also been given a chance in the team. Jharkhand’s young forward Sangati Kumari had performed brilliantly for the junior team and has now been included in the main team as well.
Apart from Sangati, some young players have also been given a chance. All these players showed a good game for the junior team.
Regarding the selection of the team, the head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, Janeck Skopman said that they are excited about the match against Spain. After returning from Oman, the team has practiced well for two weeks. The 22 players selected in the squad will be ready to show what they can do against Spain. When you have a good group of players, it always becomes difficult to select a team. But the young players are constantly improving and performing well. It is pleasant to see.
Spain is a strong team:
“Spain is a strong team and they have consistently performed well. This team missed out on a semi-final spot in Tokyo by a close margin. They have consistently played well at a high level. In the last World Cup also this team missed out on a bronze medal. They are very talented and play with a strong defence. So we are focusing on our own speed, ability and strong defense to beat them.”Talking about Spain, the Indian coach said,
